Classroom Music Program

Classroom music is taught by specialist music teachers. Generally, students from Prep to Year 6 receive a half hour lesson weekly.  The music program is a sequential, developmental program in which basic musical elements such as rhythm, melody, listening and performing skills are learnt.

Choral Music Program

Forest Lake State School has two choirs, Senior and Junior.  These choirs both rehearse before school and perform at various functions throughout the year. All students are welcome to join choir. Please see the music teachers for more information.

Instrumental Music Program

Instrumental Music is an extension program for students enrolled in year levels 4, 5 and 6. Instructors teach lessons in percussion, strings, woodwind and brass instruments. The main objectives of this program are to afford students the opportunity to participate in a group music performance situation and develop skills on their selected instrument. Students who participate in the instrumental program have a half-hour lesson in school time and the ensemble practises in their own time (e.g. lunch time/before school).  Ensembles perform at various functions and events throughout the year.

Instrumental tuition is free although a levy is paid to support the program. Some instruments are available for loan from the school. At the end of the year students in year 3 are selected for the program to commence in year 4.
Students who have previously learned an instrument at another school should speak to the instrumental music teachers.
